COMMON QUESTIONS

Answers to frequently asked questions from the September 2026 AMPPlify Update, including internal corrosion management, stripe coating, AMPP standards, French Canadian translations, pipeline integrity, and upcoming AMPP conferences.

What new and revised AMPP standards are featured in the September 2026 AMPPlify Update?

Two standards updates are featured this month. The new AMPP SP21590-2026, Internal Corrosion Management Utilizing a Barrier and Integrity Operating Window Approach, focuses on internal corrosion management. The revised SSPC-PA Guide 11-2026, Protecting Corners, Edges, Crevices, and Irregular Steel Geometries by Stripe Coating, addresses stripe coating for difficult steel geometries.

What is internal corrosion management and why is it important for pipeline integrity?

Internal corrosion management is the systematic process of identifying, monitoring, and controlling corrosion threats inside pipelines and related equipment. Programs may use corrosion barriers, monitoring data, inspection findings, operating conditions, and integrity operating windows to help reduce corrosion risk and support reliable asset performance.

For pipeline operators and integrity professionals, this connects operating conditions with corrosion-control decisions and long-term asset integrity. Review AMPP SP21590-2026.

What is stripe coating and where is it used?

Stripe coating is a targeted coating application used on areas that are difficult to cover uniformly. Common examples include edges, corners, welds, crevices, bolts, and other irregular steel geometries.

These locations can be vulnerable to insufficient coating thickness. Stripe coating improves coverage in those areas and supports the durability of the protective coating system. Explore SSPC-PA Guide 11-2026.
